کتاب بادبان های جنوب حاصل بیش از پنج سال تحقیق میدانی و پژوهشی نویسنده، علی پارسا، در معرفی سابقه، ابزارها، روش‌ها و به طور کلی فرهنگ دریانوردی با کشتی‌های چوبی و بادبانی است که تا مدتی پیش در جنوب ایران رایج بوده است. بسیاری از ایرانیان با این سنت دریانوردی که قرن‌ها رایج بوده است آشنایی ندارند. چه بسا بسیاری از آنان نه تنها از وجود چنین روش هایی بی اطلاع اند، حتی شاید بسیاری ندانند که تا پیج دهه قبل، بسیاری از مردم ایران با کشتی های دست ساز بادبانی به سواحل هند و آفریقا می رفتند!

About the Author

Ali Asgharzadeh Parsa, born in 1950, is an Iranian desert navigator and sailor. He is the son of Asghar Parsa, the former spokesman of the National Front faction in the National Assembly of Iran. He is currently an alternate member of the board of directors of the Iranian Informatics Association and a member of the board of trustees of Zirakzadeh Scientific Foundation. Previously, he was the editor of the specialized magazine Computer Report (published by the Iranian Informatics Association) for four years. Parsa is also one of the old supporters of Persian Wikipedia.

He is a student of Alborz High School, Ariamehr University of Technology, University of San Francisco and San Jose State University. He and his team were the first group that managed to enter Rig Jen desert in 2004, after eight attempts. This group entered Rig Jen by vehicle from the South and traveled to it's center.

The motivation to write such a book was formed in the mind of author when he was learning the basics of sailing in a club in America, and sometimes he was asked: "What is the state of sailing in Iran?"
